Castor Gallery is pleased to present Entropical Getaway a new installation and body of work by Signe Pierce at Satellite Art Fair Miami.
Entropical Getaway is an installation and performance which will serve as a plastic oasis featuring multimedia works by the artist plus a series of performances throughout the weekend. Attendees are invited to immerse themselves inside an artificial paradise free from the dangers of the outside world. Inspired by the polarized state of America, climate change, the Zika endemic, and the inherent escapism of Miami Art Basel, the installation seeks to unpack the ways that we encase ourselves into bubbles as a form of protection from actual reality.
Signe Pierce is a performance artist, photographer, and art director. Her work explores sexuality in the digital age, addressing the increasing commonality of manufactured objects of desire. Pierce has worked with Hot Sugar on their music videos, which are cast in pastels and neon, an aesthetic is that is also used throughout her photography and personal video art. American Reflexxx, a collaborative effort with Alli Coates that debuted at Art Basel Miami in 2013, brought Pierce a lot of attention; the work originally intended to explore the loss of individuality in the perfect woman, a phenomenon that has been greatly impacted by our reliance on technology.
Signe Pierce was recently named one of the top 11 artists to watch in NYMag by Jerry Saltz, her performance piece with Alli Coates has been covered by ArtNews, Vogue, Wired, Vice, Flavorwire, Huffington Post and more. Recent performances include the MOMA and a installation at Castor Gallery Broome Street. Signe is currently a part of the highly respected Artha residence program.
